DETAILS:
Pullman Tech Workshop is a dynamic community hub located in a historic stables building designed by Frommann & Jebsen. Once part of the broader Pullman Company campus, the Workshop's reimagined space honors the area's rich manufacturing heritage while empowering South Side residents through hands-on training in the trades for youth, returning citizens, and aspiring entrepreneurs. Architecturally, the building features original brickwork, exposed beams, and large factory-style windows that flood the space with natural light. Modern upgrades have transformed the interior into an adaptable learning and makerspace, supporting classes in woodworking, drywalling, and sustainable building practices.
VISITOR EXPERIENCE:
Visitors will have access to the first floor of the Pullman Tech Workshop for self-guided, station-based exploration featuring hands-on displays and historical artifacts. The historic horse elevator will be viewable, but not operational. Short tours will be offered every 30 minutes to highlight the building’s history, the horse elevator, and current community programming.
