DETAILS:

Founded in 1899, Anti-Cruelty is Chicago’s oldest and largest private Open Door animal welfare organization. For over 125 years, Anti-Cruelty has worked at the intersection of animal welfare and social well-being to provide care for animals, people, and communities. The main adoption center, completed in 1979, was designed by Stanley Tigerman with a facade that represents the face of a basset hound. The Art Deco facade on Grand Avenue dates to 1936.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

The lobby and adoption floors are open for visitors to enjoy a self-guided tour. Visitors are welcome to spend time with the animals while onsite, or participate in the Reading Buddies program, where guests help pets relax by reading a provided book to them. Adoptions are also available!
