DETAILS:

Avondale Bowl is an eight-lane bowling alley and bar on Chicago's northwest side. Originally built in the 1920s, it operated until the early 90s. It sat vacant from then until 2018, when the current owners restored the vintage lanes. Restoring as much of the bowling equipment and lanes as possible, Avondale Bowl offers bowling in its classic form (manual scoring & wood lanes) in a modern-meets-vintage setting. New skylights and large windows allow for natural light, a rare feature in bowling alleys, and a rebuilt bar incorporates the original mahogany rail.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

Volunteers will escort guests from the front door to either the stairway or elevators leading to the bowling alley. Guests are encouraged to take a self-guided tour of the lanes and bar while stopping by the Shoe Counter to have any questions answered about the space.
