DETAILS:

The Museum of Post Punk and Industrial Music, founded by musician, producer, and author Martin Atkins (Public Image Ltd, Ministry, Killing Joke, Pigface), is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of post-punk and industrial music in all its forms. Drawing from Atkins’s extensive personal archives along with donations from artists and fans worldwide, the collection spans the cultural evolution from late-70s post-punk to the many offshoots of industrial. Visitors encounter rare artifacts, stage props, tour itineraries, original artwork, unreleased recordings, and personal memorabilia—all brought to life through immersive multimedia installations. While the scope is international, Chicago’s role as the epicenter of industrial music makes it a fitting home. The museum occupies a 1917 brick commercial building that once served as a funeral home and later housed a record label, adding a distinctive layer of history to the experience.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

The main exhibition floor will be open for self-guided exploration. Volunteers and staff will also share stories and answer questions. Guests may also peek into the recording studio.
