DETAILS:

Edgewater Beach Apartments is the only remaining part of the Edgewater Beach Hotel complex, constructed by Marshall and Fox starting in 1918. This massive, Spanish-style “Pink Palace” was connected to the hotel by a three-block beach promenade for decades. The "sunset pink" facade was designed to complement the hotel's "sunrise yellow" color scheme. The hotel was demolished in the late 1960s, a decade after the extension of Lake Shore Drive severed its connection to the beach. The building became a co-op in 1949 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. It has a unique Maltese-Cross shape to give each room maximum natural light and views of Lake Michigan. Other interior highlights include the chandeliered lobby, original Beaux-Arts pool, and indoor terrace. And residents also have 2-acre outdoor garden at their disposal.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

The lobby, retail arcade, mezzanine, pool terrace, and garden will be open to visitors. Tours will be partly guided, and partly self-guided.
