DETAILS:

The former bank at 68th and Stony Island was once a vibrant community savings and loan. Restored by artist and urban planner Theaster Gates and reopened in 2015, Stony Island Arts Bank is now a hybrid gallery, library, media archive, and community center, aimed at preserving Black culture and artistic expression. This fall, Stony Island Arts bank serves as a site of the Chicago Architecture Biennial, featuring five installations by architects and designers from around the world. Together, they explore how architecture engages with the profound cultural, social, and environmental transformations shaping our world today, and demonstrate its role in shaping our collective future.
