DETAILS:

The Weaving Mill is Chicago's only artist-run industrial weaving studio. Working on weaving equipment ranging in age from 1919-2005, TWM designs and produces woven fabrics that prioritize quality craftsmanship, creative use of color and material, and a holistic approach to sustainability. The Weaving Mill is partnered with social services agency Envision Unlimited, running a handweaving program for adults with developmental disabilities. Members of the program will be on site to share information and showcase the handweaving process. The Weaving Mill grew out of the Chicago Weaving Corporation, a local weaving operation that began in the 1940s in Wicker Park.

ENTRANCE INSTRUCTIONS:

Enter at the loading dock accessed through the parking lot

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

The Weaving Mill production studio and shop will be open for visitors. Envision Unlimited members will be on site to share information and showcase the handweaving process, with optional guided tours of the industrial weaving process with machine demonstrations at set times (11am, 1pm, 3pm). The weaving machines are quite loud and fast, and visitors will be asked to maintain safe distance. Earplugs will be offered to those who would like them.
